Handfeeding Axolotls

Hand-feeding is the best thing you can do with your axolotls. It provides so much entertainment, watching the silly idiots try swim up to you and wriggling their tails. It gives them more stimulation and is beneficial, because you can monitor how much each gets, and ensure all are eating. It also keeps them from sucking up any sand while they eat if you have a sand bottom.

My methods involve:

 - A turkey baster

 - Plastic tipped feeding tongs

 - Bun pins

I get frights if they bite me, so don't use my own fingers. More often than not, they ignore the food and bite the bigger food option (my hand) so it isn't effective.

I use the turkey baster with pellets, to suck them up and drop them over their heads. This helps me if they miss sniffing some out, and I can keep the tank cleaner

The tongs are self-explanatory. Plastic tipped so they don't hurt themselves when they lunge at the food. Useful for worms and bigger items.

I use the bun pin like the tongs, for smaller items, and pellets. It's easier to use than large tongs for smaller items, and for hand-feeding young juvies.
